I Need Help With How To And What To Name My Brand

Posted by dkennelly89 on 50 Points
Im starting a swimwear line/company.I I literally have no experience in the fashion industry except for that I know what I like and I don't like but I have always had a bikini obsession. I have more bikinis in my closet than I do shoes. Im a so cal girl born and raised, I have always loved to rock my bikinis and pretty much wear them all year long lol. However, I have spent the last 7 years selling corporate jet charter, so sales and marketing I definitely have some knowledge. I would appreciate any suggestions on deciding a name or what to call my line. I have a few ideas but nothing that Im in love with. What and how should I go about deciding a good name for my brand???thanks to all and anyone that could help!!!!!

Instead of starting with a name, start with a clear idea of who specifically will likely purchase from you. Age? Income level? Location? Reason? How do you know if you're right?
Next, how will they find you? Hope to sell online? In your own brick and mortar store? In someone else's store? On someone else's website?

I agree that you should make decisions about channels of distribution as you are developing your business plan and before you decide on a business name.

But I would encourage you to think beyond bikinis in your business name. Maybe beachwear is a broader term which could lead to more repeat business (not everyone wears bikinis as much as you) and can expand your market to men as well.

You need to start by interviewing a dozen people in your target audience. Ask them about their attitudes when shopping for swimwear, when/why they buy a bikini, how they decide which to buy, etc. Don't try to sell them anything or lead the witness. Just ask your questions, let them talk, and take detailed notes. Be as objective as you can be, and forget that you are a bikini buyer too.

After you have completed a dozen good interviews step back and review your notes. You will be amazed at how much good marketing information is in them ... and how clear the naming direction will seem.
