What Should I Name My Event Planning Business?

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
Hello, my name is Nancy and I currently own by own business selling candles and centerpieces and other decorative items. I am looking to expand my business and include doing event planning. I am wanting to target mostly Bacherlorette Parties and other bridal events just not the wedding in itself. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Start by identifying and defining your target audience. Who will be hiring you for bachelorette parties? How do they make the hiring decision? What are the main criteria they use to determine how to approach the task? What do they do now? (Who is your competition?)

Once you have that answer, you need to ask yourself why they should hire you. What makes you different from, and better than, what they are doing now? What unique and important benefit do you provide?

Nancy, the name should communicate your positioning benefit. Until we know who the target audience is and what you're trying to communicate with the name, there's no basis for coming up with names.

Think about it this way: How will you know when the right name shows up? How will you evaluate our suggestions? If you don't know what you're trying to communicate (and to whom), all the names we come up with will be wrong.

If you can tell us what the name is supposed to communicate, and how you'll judge our suggestions, there's a much better chance we can come up with a winner for you.

Hello, sorry I was not aware this was important in a name but it does make sense now that I have thought about it. My target audience will be younger adults female between the ages of 21-30. I believe they make the hiring decision based on the the business being easy to find, unique and stress free and of course, fun!

I am not that much different then anyone else starting an event planning business except that I also have a candle and home decor business in which I would love to incorprate into this. Such by doing bridal showers and offering a discount on items needed for wedding. As far as the bacherlorette parties go I stumbled onto this because I am in the process of planning my own wedding and looked online for companies that plan your party and have all inclusive packages.

I found one and thought their website looked clean it had an excellent name but the only problem was that they have tons of bad reviews and I decided not to use them. I cannot find another company in my area that does this but them, that is when the idea came. I would do the same thing but include it somehow with my business now and of course not be in the business of scamming others as the other companies reviews stated.

I think they should hire me because who knows best then someone else who has had to plan their own wedding from start to finish and parties. I also have great decorating skills and offer a personal experience unlike other said company who are entirely based online and have different "contacts" in other cities. I would love to make this personal and get to know the customer on a personal level rather then strictly a transaction. My rates would be reasonable and I would offer different themes and party packages. I also would hire realiable employees.

I do know that running a business is the easiest thing to do on the planet I also know it is not the hardest thing to do. As mentioned before, the other company has had a lot of bad reviews in regards of ripping customers off and not following through with plans or the planners not returning calls and following through, this seems to be the average complaint about this company. I do know it is hard but I find it hard not to return a call, plan the event the way the customer wants, not steal their money etc. I would love to have a stellar company built on the foundations of GREAT customer service.

Does the bride usually throw the bachelorette party, or is it usually a maid of honor or other friends of the bride? WHO is making this decision? What's their primary motivation? Who pays for the party? (Not so much interested in age or other demographics as in how they go about making the decisions.)

It is the maid of honor who usually makes the decisions in planning the event sometimes the brides does. All the bridesmaids usually pitch in, most of the time the attendees all pitch and there is a price per person. This is what my pricing is aimed at, per person. The primary motivation would be to have a fun, memorable stress-free event. They would want to get a better deal and will be looking around via web and calling businesses and getting quotes as I would be taking care of the fully for them and also giving them a better rate. This would be stress free they wouldnt have to plan it and research. Saving money will be the primary motivation.
