Tagline & Elevator Pitch For Cloud Software

Posted by francoistarifa-wee on 250 Points
Hi everyone,

We have developed a cloud application that supports operational excellence initiatives in manufacturing companies.
It helps people solve any business problem by providing contextual suggestions at each step of the problem-solving process. These suggestions are based on all previously-solved problems, and the challenge you solve will in turn fuel suggestions for future comparable problems.
It is the first software that truly enables continuous improvement, as it prevents people from reinventing the wheel every time they face a problem.

I am trying to find a tagline and an elevator pitch (1 or 2 sentences that explain what we do) and I've been struggling for weeks. What I found is either too broad or too narrow.
On top, English is not my native language, and it is therefore more difficult for me to draw the line between catchy and marketing BS.

I was wondering if you could help me go in the right direction.
Many thanks already!

Right now you've got a product, and are searching for a need. Can you give some specific examples of how your software has been used to make a significant difference for various companies? How does differ from existing products and/or processes that your targeted businesses are using?

Both to help us and as a possible way forwards, would you be able to give a concrete example?

Your comments underline the fact that the current description is really too vague :-)

Some of the needs we address:
    - When people solve a technical problem in a company, they tend to "reinvent the wheel" (start from scratch) to solve it, although this problem has likely been solved many times elsewhere in the organization. They waste time and efforts in doing so --> they need to get access to relevant information exactly when they need it, without having to actively search for it
    - It is today difficult to formalize knowledge once a problem has been solved: this is an extra effort and it's hard to get people to do it. Therefore, only a fraction of the efforts invested everyday in solving problems is actually captured by companies. --> Companies need an easy way to capture the wealth of experience generated every day by their employees
    - There are potentially many experts on a topic, but few people know them. Therefore they are rarely leveraged. Also, many people are not flagged as official experts, but are in fact very knowledgeable about something. --> People need an easy way to connect with real experts, and experts need incentives to share their expertise

Now a concrete example of a problem we've solved, and its benefits for the client.
One of our clients had been struggling with a recurring technical problem for the last 7 years. This problem generated more than $500K per year in production losses only. They tried to solve the problem several times in the past usinh traditional tools (e.g. flipchart, Excel).
After using our software for 6 weeks:
    - The problem is solved
    - 3x more potential causes and 3x more solutions were identified during analysis (compared with same exercise without our software)
    - Timely implementation of solutions increased by 20%, to 98%
    - And thanks to our software, all information, causes, actions and solutions were seamlessly captured along the way, and now generate suggestions in comparable contexts

    I hope this helps!

It still sounds vague. I still don't know what the magic is. It sounds like it could be a form of knowledge management with a specialist search engine somewhere. Or it could be a form of discussion forum with external experts. As you can see I'm still guessing at what the secret ingredient is. Do you have a demo, or an illustration video?

Sparks! - Illuminate your problem solving.

Software that enables you to rediscover past work, build connections and make links to find better solutions to your intractable problems.

The end of problem solving brick walls.

It's like an automatic help system for solving problems. The software reads what engineers are doing and makes suggestions for ways forwards, or places to refer to, so the engineers don't need to reinvent the wheel, or can get inspiration from work others have done before.

The manner of your problem solving follows (roughly speaking) the Japanese concept of Kaizen.

    So how about

"The Kaizen of the cloud: iterative problem solving" Iterative being a mathematical term for incremental performance improvement. Not quite the dictionary definition, but the idea is to wash, rinse and repeat for further improvements ;-)

The engineers who use your systems will get the idea. They like things iterative.

Here is a short video that we made some time ago. The reason why I didn't mention it earlier is that the concept was broader back then (any kind of business problems, shared across companies).

You can find some screen shots and more explanations here: https://www.solvace.com/lean-management/

    This should clarify (hopefuly!)

Thanks Moriarty. It's indeed the idea.
In fact, our ambition is to become to Kaizen / Operational Excellence / Continuous Improvement what a word processor is to paper writing, i.e. a solution to industrialize something that is still very manual today.
In all modesty, of course :-)

Personally I'd find continuous improvement more tangible and a better reason for working with a software solution. Problem solving is sort of a do once task and more difficult to understand how software will help - why not just go to an external expert for a problem?

    Software to accelerate continuous improvement

@saul.dobney: you came up with the exact same idea as us.
I was worried that "accelerate continuous improvement" was too business lingo, but at the same time it does describe what we do.

Many thanks to all for your help.
