A New Name For Our Annual School Fundraiser?

Posted by hadleysolomon on 250 Points
We are ready to re-name our annual school fundraiser. It has historically been called the Annual Round-Up, but the western connotation doesn't relate to our school mascot (cougar) or color (green). Additionally, it doesn't represent our mission, which is a commitment to excellence in education (the reason most people attend our school).

We would love any suggestions for a new name. Thank you!

What's the name of the school? Where? Who is the primary target for the fundraiser? Why should they donate to this cause?

Building onto the previous questions, what kind of fundraiser is it? Auction? fair? dance? When is it held? Where (both where is your school and what kind of venue is it in)?

This is an annual fundraiser soliciting lump sum cash donations (via check or CC too) from students' families. The school is Niwot Elementary, located in Niwot, CO, the mascot is a cougar, and the school colors are green and white. The fundraiser is held at the beginning of every school year, through September, and the funds go towards the salaries of Para professionals (our biggest expense, comprising half our yearly budget), field trips, science assemblies, technology, literacy support and community events.

We like the themes of investment, commitment and excellence. Over half of our students elect to attend this school rather than go to their neighborhood school and we would like to emphasize that a big part of the school's success is an involved and committed parent body.

Hey There! Sounds like a fun exercise!

Thank you for providing more info about the school, the names, and the cause. However, I have a handful of questions for you. The answers will help in the long run.

What do you to raise funds?

Do you sell stuff, or have the kids sell candy, etc?

Host a silent auction of donated items and collectibles from individuals and local businesses?

Or do you send flyers home and post a few press releases?

If you don't have a solid strategy, or if the current one needs to be replaced, are you wanting ideas? Or just a name?

Do you have a budget? (This relates to wanting a new fundraising strategy, if applicable)

If we know what you do to raise money, we can come up with better, more relative name ideas.

    Hi there,

I reviewed your website and I found the following:
    POSITIVE BEHAVIOR SUPPORT (PBS)

PBS determines how we address behavior on a school wide basis:

    P - positive attitude
    A - always safe
W - we are respectful and responsible
    S - striving for excellence

Why not name the event the Annual PAWS for a CAUSE or the Annual NiWot Paws for a Cause?
It's a play on words of course (pause) but it takes into account both your philosophy and the cougar mascot element while still mentioning the charity aspect. You could even have a contest or auction and use a Looking to Donate - Why Not Niwot? sort of tagline. Something cute enough to still be elementary but catchy. Hope this helps. Good luck with your event!
