Need Help Naming My Boutique

Posted by kicecb on 250 Points
I am opening a boutique in Utah that will offer upscale designer clothing, Handbags, Accessories, unique home decor, local handmade crafts and yummy treats. Consignment of vendors merchandise of the above description Focusing on all age groups. I would like something unique and not trendy. The store look will be in colors of Turquoise blue/white/silver/black. White slat walls. Mostly wood furniture for displays to give the warm boutique feel. Here are some names that are already in use, but will give you an idea of what I like and am looking for: Sophisticated lady, Whisperwood, Rock Loft, Pursenality. Some names I have toyed around with are: Sweet City Women, Upscale Boutique, A Taste of Utah, Rocky Mountain Boutique or Brenda Kay's (my first and middle name). I was thinking tag lines of : Fashions for the body and home or unique clothing and home Decor. History of past business: I had a wonderful business for 5 years called The Rocky Mountain Handbag Co. and set up my store in the Mall, it was very successful, after my 5yr. lease was up I closed my doors do to both parents terminally ill with Cancer. I put everything into storage and took care of my mom and dad for 2 years. Both of my parents passed away this year 1 month apart from each other and I am glad I had the opportunity to care for them in there home, I love them and miss them, it has been 5 months now and I feel I need to get back to business and instead of using the name Rocky Mountain Handbag Co. I wanted to go towards a Boutique setting and do a DBA of it using a complete different name, but inside the boutique I can use my sign RMHC (Rocky Mountain Handbag Co.) and put my handbags and accessories below. I am open to any and all feedback/suggestions—Please help me!!

Are your customers likely to be mostly locals or more tourists and part-time residents? I think you can probably stay close to your former business name (Rocky Mountain Handbag Company) without much risk. Rocky Mountain Boutique is one way to do that.

I would suggest that you try to narrow your target audience definition quite a bit. "[A]ll age groups ..." covers such a broad range as to be useless for targeting your message. Do you really plan to direct your message to 4-year-olds AND octogenarians -- and everyone between? That's going to be quite a challenge!

My customers will be mostly locals and residents. I plan to target 18-60 yr old women. I will be renting space to specific vendors, along with my merchandise.

Of the names you're playing around with (Sweet City Women, Upscale Boutique, A Taste of Utah, Rocky Mountain Boutique or Brenda Kay's), the best is likely to be Rocky Mountain Boutique. A Taste of Utah sounds like a food business. Brenda Kay's and Sweet City Women don't give a clue of what you're offering. Upscale Boutique does, but it may convey the wrong impression (is everything high-priced? Are the staff snobby? Etc.). I'm unclear about the "yummy treats" as part of your offering - since you wouldn't think to find them in a boutique.
