Craft Business Name & Tagline

Posted by juanitanealon on 250 Points
Hi,

I am in the process of starting my own craft business but I am stuck on a name & tagline. I am involved in upcycling furniture, painting wooden picture frames / letters / boxes etc, decoupaging & soap making.

Can you help?

Thanks,

J

We can definitely help. First, though, we need some additional information.

Who is your primary target audience? Where? When/how do they decide to buy the kinds of items you want to sell? Where do they get these items now? Who will be your main competition?

Is this going to be an online business, or will it be a bricks-and-mortar location, or both? How will your target audience learn that you exist? Do you have a rough marketing plan? If so, perhaps you can share some of the key elements with us. If not, that's really the right place to start. The marketing plan and positioning should come before the name and tagline so we know what we are trying to communicate with the name/tagline.

Fill us in on these important underpinnings and we'll come through with a great name and tagline for you.

Upcycling sounds like a pretty good name on it's own - or Yourname Upcycling

    - Furniture rejuvenation and repurposing.

Many thanks for the replies. I'll try and answer as many questions as I can!

My target market is women & children. I will be creating a new Facebook page & using my existing contacts to like & share my page. I intend to sell through Facebook, Ebay, Esty & craft fairs. I also would like to get my products eventually into some local home decor shops.

I live in a rural area and as far as I am aware I do not have direct competition in my area but what I do is getting more popular so I would want to stand out from the crowd as much as I can.

This is a start-up business. I will be advertising / selling online and at craft fairs but all work will be done from home. In relation to upcycling, if I received a commission I would have to travel to the clients house to carry out the work there or have the piece delivered to my home to work on.

As the main part of this business will be upcycling I will be relying on word of mouth as part of my advertising and marketing. I also intend to take an ad out in the local newspaper.

    My products are:

Upcycling / Repurposing - this will involve painting, decoupaging, stencils etc on large pieces of furniture and also smaller items such as picture frames, mirror frames etc. This also goes into kids furniture with transforming tables, chairs, bedside lockers, toy boxes etc with fun colours to match bedroom / playroom themes.

I also make ceramic tiles into coasters, plain boxes into keepsake boxes, wooden letters painted & decorated to order. Most of these items I would have already made & have in my on line shop but the larger pieces would be as I do them.

Although the upcycling will be a big part of the business, I do not want my business name to solely reflect that as I do other things.

Hope all of that makes sense & I have answered all your questions!

    Thank you,

    J
