Feedback On Business Name Ideas

Posted by mariannefennell on 250 Points
Hi everyone, I'm working on starting up my hobby of making dog collars, leashes and treats as a business. I've had some success selling my products to friends and at craft fairs. I've been away from it for some time but ready to jump in again. I'm throwing around a few names and looking for feedback.

Naughty Dog Gear (tag line: Because naughty dogs need to look good too)
Bean's Barkery ( no tag line yet)

Naughty Dog was inspired by my two very naughty dogs. My concern with this name is that it won't be user stood plus There is a video game company called Naughty Dog. Beans barkery comes from my dog beans name. Although I like it, it makes it look like I only do treats, etc.

I really want a .com domain for my website and so far these are the only two names that I like and are available. I appreciate your feedback!

Bean's Barkery -- Your target audience won't know what "Bean" means in this context. And it does suggest you make treats, can easily be confused with "bakery."

Naughty Dog Gear -- Better, but it does suggest that you sell training gear (to correct those "naughty" behaviors).

How about this: Tell us about your primary target audience. Where are they? How will they learn about you? What unique benefit do you deliver for them?

Then we'll have something to serve as a basis for coming up with a suitable name for your business.

I completely agree with your feedback! My primary target audience is every day dog owners looking for fun collars and leashes for their dogs. When I started this hobby 7 years ago, I couldn't find a collar or leash that I LOVED for my dog, so I decided to create my own. Friends / family loved them and started asking me to make some for them. I figured I had a business idea in there if I was selling them without even trying. I'm not sure that I'm really "different" from other businesses that are out there now. I know my collars are made of quality material and really last - my naughtiest dog has been wearing the same one for 5 years and it's just starting to fray. Ideally I want to sell my products at craft shows / green markets and online.

Thanks for the comments. I really want to stay away from collar and leash in the name. Too boring and too specific. I have 2 new name options:

    Wicked Biscuit
    Hound Hut

Which of these two do you like best?

Of the two, my preference would be Hound Hut. Wicked Biscuit just suggests treats/bakery.
