Tagline For (another!) Psychology Practice

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
Hello,
I am looking to develop a concise tagline for my clinical psychology practice - STEPS Psychology. I offer assessment and therapy services to children, adolescents, and their families. Logo involves footprints (still being developed). Ideas/concepts I have tossed around include: new directions, growth, progress, journey, shift, change, path/way, advance, further ...
I am hoping for a brief (3 word?) tagline ... e.g., "toward(s) ...", "advancing ...".

    Thanks for your suggestions.
Initial thoughts ... I want it to focus more on what my business offers clients (vs. what I expect of them ... e.g., taking a step, taking a leap). The idea of "leaping" implies more risk to me than is warranted ...
I hope that the steps lead to more than hope ... (ideally, clients come in with hope ... hope for change, new direction, etc. - the concepts I mentioned in my original post).
Very appreciative of all of the ideas so far!

I agree with Phil Grisolia: let the name STEPS and the footprints convey the step-by-step nature of your work. Your tagline could then be the simple definition of your practice that you first offered (and Phil pointed out):

    STEPS Psychology
Assessment and therapy services for children, adolescents, and their families

It's not catchy, but it sure tells the story.

The one thing I would NOT do is repeat the word "steps" in the tagline.

You've said it already (in the name), and it's unlikely that the tagline will ever appear without the name, so why use one of your few valuable opportunities to communicate (a) what you do, or (b) the benefit your clients should expect, by repeating a word/thought that you've already registered?

While I am a big proponent of short, telegraphic taglines, I actually like the approach bill.hoelzel has taken because it tells people precisely what you do and who your target audience is. You might make it a little crisper, so it reads:

    STEPS Psychology
Assessment and Therapy for Children and Teens

Question: Where will the tagline appear? Why do you feel a need for a tagline? What motivated you to even seek out a tagline? Are you concerned that the name alone doesn't give enough information? Do you have an active practice now? If so, what are you hoping to change by creating and adding a tagline to the business name?

Thanks so much for all of the great ideas. I love "pathway to change" or some variation of it (e.g., "your path to change").
"We're your first step" is cute but not necessarily true (as a first step is usually contact with the professional who refers to me ... school staff, pediatrician, etc.).
I like the ideas/questions put out by bill.hoelzel and mgoodman in terms of using the tagline to simply describe what I do.
To answer the questions in the last post, the tagline would appear on my business cards and any letterhead, mailings, etc. (I'm not doing large scale advertising at this point). The person developing my business card, who has a business background, suggested a tagline (that's what motivated me to seek one out!). I do have an active practice, but under my own name. I am hoping to "rebrand" with a business name so am in the process of developing a logo, etc.

So ... I am debating between a short, catchy tagline ("Your path to change" - and I like the double entendre) and "Assessment and Therapy for Children and Teens". While I like the descriptor, most people in my area know that psychologists generally provide assessment and therapy ... the only specifier here is the target age group.

    Any other thoughts??

    Hi everyone,
I'm sorry I didn't award points before the question was closed. I thought that, by updating last week with my thoughts, the question would remain open longer. Thanks very much for all of your ideas.
