What Is The Right Colour For My Kind Of Business?

Posted by zeniswise on 25 Points
I'm planning on opening pastry shop ... Mainly contemporary looking place. Also the food is contemporary and creative along with some classics

I thought of my business name and logo to be black background and white writing to give that contemporary look. But wasn't sure if I should because it a common colour combo for a lot of businesses. I was wondering if I should add a colour to set myself apart?

If yes, then what colours work well with black and white?

It's more what colour will work with pastries? Gold, yellow, light brown/beige? Get some mock ups made up and test them on prospective customers.

Consider legibility over flash and style. To this end, cpt for darker text on lighter backgrounds.

If you really want to use black and white, I would think you'd want to add a warm color to the mix. But I'm not speaking as an expert at this.

Best approach would probably be to involve a graphic design professional.

Keep in mind, colors mean different things for different cultures. Some people look at green and think environmentally conscious, and others see mold. Some see white as pure and marriage, where others see death. It matters how colors are perceived in your target region.

I can do black and white both ways like for packaging black cup with white cap or white pastry bags with black writing ... Not limited to black background and white writing... I thought adding the light blue/grey would stand out for packaging and pastry shop decor for accent colour along with the black and white

I agree with colours mean certain things but sometime some businesses' name/logo twist logic around like you mentioned green for environmental ... One of the biggest brand with green is Starbucks and they aren't involved with environmental aspect ... It coffee, tea, pastries and so on

Speaking of graphic design pro ... Is there a good source in what to look for in a great graphic designer? I don't want to get ripped off and already pay like initial cost or anything and receive mock ups and pretty much don't like it at all or their styles/skill level doesn't meet the expectation
