The Brave New World of the "New Media": How Technology is Changing the Way We Think, Learn, Play, Work and Vote

The tech advances of the last few years have turned the news and entertainment worlds on their ears, shifting the balance of power away from media poobahs dictating what is important and what is not, and toward customers being empowered to choose and create. In this lively presentation, Arianna Huffington, described by Fortune Magazine as one of the few people who "get" the Internet, discusses the latest online media trends—including how media companies are turning content promiscuity into profits, what she has learn about starting and maintaining a blog, and how you can react to the fact that customers are now in control of information they see and interact with. Plus, she reveals her vision of a hybrid future where traditional media and new media become one.

Arianna Huffington is the co-founder and editor-in-chief of The Huffington Post, a nationally syndicated columnist, and author of 11 books. She is also co-host of Left, Right & Center, public radio’s popular political roundtable program. In May 2005, she launched The Huffington Post, a news and blog site that has quickly become one of the most widely read, linked to, and frequently-cited media brands on the Internet. In 2006, she was named to the Time 100, Time Magazine’s list of the world’s 100 most influential people.

Gary VaynerchukGary Vaynerchuk

Uncorking Your Brand with Social Media

Gary Vaynerchuk has attracted national attention as a result of his pioneering, multi-faceted approach to personal branding and business building in the Web 2.0 world. Gary's unscripted video blog, Wine Library TV, began humbly but now attracts more than 80,000 viewers a day after tireless promotion via Facebook, MySpace, Digg, Twitter, Pownce, and other networking channels. His success has led to features by various media outlets including Conan O’Brien, Ellen, Time Magazine, and The Wall Street Journal, and his show was recently picked up by the Revision3 network. An engaging and inspiring speaker, Gary will detail the essentials of his web-oriented approach, his views on social media and personal branding and show you how you can use social media to increase your brand recognition online.

At a very young age, Gary took over the family business, a liquor store in New Jersey. Over a period of 6 years Gary and his father Sasha rebranded the business as Wine Library and transformed it from a local store doing roughly $4 million in sales annually to a $50 million national industry leader. On February 21, 2006, Gary launched Wine Library TV (WLTV), a free daily video blog in which Gary tastes and reviews wines. Gary unleashed the same passion and gusto to building the WLTV brand (now affectionately known as “The Thunder Show”) that he had previously brought to his business, with even more far-reaching results. In February and March of 2008, Gary became increasingly known throughout the Web 2.0 community. His remarks on branding within the social media landscape occasioned praise from established web denizens and earned the admiration of countless bloggers and aspiring entrepreneurs.
