Can I Do An Image Survey Myself?

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
Marketing research is not my area of expertise, and I must complete an image/branding survey for a large law firm. Can I do it? I have a limited knowledge of survey development and relatively basic skills in statistical analysis. What are good image/awareness questions to ask? Will descriptive stats such as percentages tell me enough or do you recommend conjoint analysis and regressions? Are there web resources out there I can access?

Generally speaking, descriptive stats will be just fine for a project of your complexity. With 50 respondents there is only so much you can do.

As for open-ended questions; if you decided to use a web based data collection method I would keep open-ended questions to a minimum. Respondents tend not to answer them.

In your survey you need to make sure you also capture information about your competitors so you know how your company stacks up or is perceived to stack up.

In addition to the questions listed above, I would suggest adding the following:
    - In General what law firms are you aware of (un-aided top of mind awareness)
    - How would you hire if you had xyz legal problem?
    - Would you consider (YOUR company)? Why/Why not?

I understand you don't have the budget to hire a MR firm to do the research for, which will make it tricky for you to get good data. It will be important for you to design the data collection process in a way that asures your respondents that their answers are confidential.

If you want some input on your survey once you have designed it I will be more than happy to review it and give you my feedback. My contact information is in my profile.
