The Indian retail industry being pre-dominantly unorganized (98%), there is a very good scope for organized retail stores here. No wonder the Ambanis, Tatas and others are trying to get into this industry with their own startegies. Similarly, the readymade garment industry in India is more unorganized and happy at that. The big players' loss is on the pricing front and the small players- the quality. This has been a phenomenon for quite a few decades, but with Big Bazaar that sells bad quality for low prices.

The point is, if you can combine these two efficiently in the initial stages of operation, then you MAY incur HUGE expenses but you WILL have an established market all to yourself.
