Number Of Vita-mix (food Blender) Sold ???

Posted by Anonymous on 500 Points
I have invented a technology that could possibly reduce the size and weight of an existing commercial equipment so that it can be 'reduced' for effective use in homes. That is, a 'new' kind of home appliance category may be possible.

I need to develop a business case for this invention. So, I need to SIZE the market for existing Home Products and Appliances, like:
- Vita-Mix Blender, or the Blender Category in general
- Bread maker category
- Back-Yard BBQ
- Pressure Water Spray (for car wash and deck wash)
- Expresso Machine

Where can I find information like:
======================
- number of units sold by country/continent/world-wide
- number of cumulative units sold
- Value of units sold
- Profit margin of manufacturer

If anyone has case studies, I am interested in purchasing them from you.

I would appreciate references to case studies, or publicly available data sources, or market studies.

Thank you for your time.

One way is to identify publicly traded companies in these industries. Their annual reports would have total sales and expenses (perhaps broken down by country). This will allow you to compute profit margin, and knowing the cost of an item, the number of units sold.

    Thanks Jay, Tim and Zahid.

Zahid: I have operated very much like you have suggested when I ran a boutique marketing firm (bought out by Jupiter) for clients. Now that I am a client, i.e., on the 'other side,' I find I don't have the 'license' to call people for data on-demand. Since I now in the business of potentially making a profit at some point, folks want me to buy and don't have time to educate or chat; they'd rather I buy something from them first.

TIM: Thanks for the reference to EuroMonitor. I have used their reserach before. This time, I have to conserve my funds, and besides, I need very few data-points. I wanted to first see if I missed any public sources.

Jay: I have looked at the annual reports of several companies. The data was rolled up and not broken out according to the categories I wanted, unfortunately. I couldn't get the fidelity or granularity.

I'll wait to see if I get any other responses, but in the meantime, I appreciate your time and insights.
