Media Impressions

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
I am new to Media Impressions. My non-profit has generated 10's of millions of media impressions in the last year. Now we need to determine a more accurate number of media impressions. What would be the best way to do this. We have been in print, web, and broadcast. Help.

I suggest you use Yahoo Alerts or Google Alerts - you can type in key words and you'll get updates each day whenever these words appear in online media.

We have been using google and yahoo alerts to notify us when our name is posted on-line. We have founds 100s of articles written about us both in print and on the web.

What is the accepted way to report media impressions and what services would you recommend using to estimate the number of media impressions. Both web and print.

I have been estimating newspaper media impressions by daily average circulation, magazines by average circulation per issue, and web by average monthly visitors. I have been using Audit Bureau of Circulations numbers for print and TrafficEstimate.com for web. TrafficEstimate's monthly numbers correlated closely to our website as well as the self reported unique visitors reported by another site. It is the web numbers I am most concerned about; what is the appropriate way to report web based media impressions. Weekly, monthly or? Are the services I am using acceptable sources or should we be using something else.

Our non-profit is less than a year old, has only one paid employee and very little money to speak of, yet. We need to accurately and appropriately estimate our media impressions to ensure we can obtain and maintain funding.

Thanks for any and all help.

One of the best resources for investigating measurement techniques (print or web) is the Direct Marketing Association. Here's the link:

    https://www.the-dma.org/index.php

They have a lot of white papers, some of which may be helpful to you.

Here's an article that might be helpful about measuring web-based impressions.

There are some syndicated reports that might be helpful. Find out what they measure and what they charge. Follow the link below to get a listing.

Of those listed, I've heard the most good about Simmons and MediaMark, although the others may be just as reputable.

Hope this is of some help.
