Become An Artist Market

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
I am looking to find out how to find sources to approach the "I want to become an artist" market.

I am focusing on the Bob Ross (https://www.bobross.com/), One Stroke Painting (https://www.onestroke.com) and to some degree Wyland (https://www.wyland.com/) market.

I am focusing on the dream of becoming an artist even if you do not have training, ever painted before, etc.

Like what forums, newsletters, lists, etc. can I find these folks.

Also, would it be wise to segment further like boomers, women, etc.?

Thanks,

Doug

    Doug,

This sounds very much like a project I did for a client a couple years ago. Different specifics, but the same kind of challenge.

Here's what we did: First we conducted a simple survey among a broad audience asking about hobbies and interests, presenting a number of concepts for "things I'd like to learn/do." Of course, we were only interested in one of them, but we didn't want to ask directly about that one so as not to bias the audience for subsequent research.

Then, based on what we got in that initial survey, we were able to do some demographic and psychographic analyses to better define our target audience, and invite prime prospects to participate in a Bulletin Board Focus Group (BBFG) where we were able to probe more deeply for motivations, related desires, emotional connections, and the relative appeal of more detailed concept statements.

    It worked out very well.
