Athlectic Shoe Shop

Posted by Anonymous on 25 Points
I'm interested in opening up an athlectic(sneaker) shop, how can I go about doing that, what the start up cost might be, where can I find some contacts for ordering product at a bulk rate, and etc..... Please help, really want to do this. Oh!! Also would that be a good investment with the way the economy is right now?

If you're located in the US, I suggest that you contact your local SBA/SBDC/SCORE chapter to get some free one-on-one support.

As for is this a good investment: it depends on your specific target market and what problem you uniquely solve for them. For example, there are lots of places people can purchase sneakers. Who is your ideal customer and why would they visit (and buy from) your shop?

A few ways to look into this on a shoestring budget -

    1) Try the industry's association website:
    https://www.apparelandfootwear.org/

They probably have some resources and information which can help you get started.

    2) Study competitor websites to understand how they are trying to meet consumer needs, what benefits do they stress, etc.

    3) Once you've identified some of your ideal customers, as Jay mentioned above, interview some of them to learn how your product would be different, from their perspective, from the competition, what benefits would you be able to uniquely offer, etc.

    4) Use Google or Yahoo alerts (using industry key words, and competitor names) so that you can stay updated on any industry/consumer information that may be relevant.
