A Couple Random Questions

Posted by Anonymous on 75 Points
1. Are there certifications/certificate programs in marketing and/or market research? For example, in finance there's the CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) and in accounting there's the CPA (Certified Public Accountant). Is there anything similar in marketing and/or market research? And if so, how useful is it?

2. What are the best masters degrees for a career in market research? Is the Masters of Marketing Research (MMR) pretty good, or are people better off doing something less marketing but more rigorous (such as a Masters in Statistics)?

Statistics is only part of market research. If you want to learn about market research you also have to understand marketing, marketing management and a bit of business finance and economics would also be helpful.

Not sure what's on your MMR syllabus but sounds worthy of further investigation.

Over here (Australia) the Marketing Institute runs a certification course leading to a Certified Practising Marketer qualification.

The American Marketing Association offers a similar-sounding qualification called the Professional Certified Marketer which may be of interest - your profile doesn't give much away about where you're from but I presume like 80% of the members here you are in the USA.

The Market Research Association also offers a Certification qualification - the Professional Researcher Qualification which might be more appropriate.

    Take your pick.

    Hope that helps.
