It Market Size - Uk And/or International

Posted by Oscar on 250 Points
Hello Guys,

I am doing some piece of research and need to find out the size of the IT professionals market worldwide, and where they are located.

Does anyone know of any specific UK and/or international statistics for the average number of people actively or not working in IT?

I would be really interested if anyone could help with this or direct me to some good sources where the information would be available either for free or to purchase.

Many thanks,
Matt

Your first step has to be to define what is in your market. IT is a very general term, so a definition needs to be set. Do you want people working at hardware firms? Software firms? Is it only home computers, or networks, mainframes, etc? Is it just the IT consultant companies (not hardware or software company employees)?

Basically, working within educational body providing wide range of IT qualifications, I am keen to know the size of the market - number of IT professionals globally (i.e. people trained to work within IT in general).
I am interested in the approximate number(s) and its split for the UK and other countries, if possible), including ALL IT PROFESSIONS.

I need to find out whether there are any stats on the above subject or if I have to outsource this to a research company.

    Have a look at www.Gartner.com

IT research reports and industry information is their speciality.

I agree with Chris - your best bet will be to contact a firm like Gartner or similar. You'll be paying for a report, but it will likely give you much better information that you can find through us.

Thanks guys, I know the IT research leaders like Forrester, Gartner, Butler etc. quite well working with the industry for several years now, moreover we are a member of one of them.
The reason I came here was the hope that some of you maybe already have come across some information on the subject which e.g. might be publically available, and which I have not found yet.

Anyway, thanks for participation - I will share the points on all of you so that will be fair.
