Comprehensive Telivision Statistics Needed

Posted by joshuacrumbaugh on 1000 Points
Hello,

I'm launching a product that will bring instant commerce to nearly 91% of American's televisions and need some assistance with statistics. Here are the primary things I need to know.

What was the total amount spent on advertising in the US for the years 2008 and 2009?

What is the total dollar volume of transactions for television sales outlets such as QVC and HSN?

What is the dollar volume of infomercial transactions in 2009,2008?

How much in total transactions is it estimated was the result of television advertising in 2008/2009?

Please include sources.

Thank you.

If you Google the term"total QVC sales" or similar, you will find many articles that give you these numbers.

This search term worked for much of what you were after for HSN: "how much is sold over HSN in a year"

    Hi Joshua,

While the above statistics certainly help to make your case, you really want a good idea about how much instant TV commerce would INCREASE thanks to your product, right? If this has not happened in the past, it is good to draw an analogy: many websites went from informational to transactional over the last decade. How much % did they saw their business increase? The following article gives some pointers:

    Good luck!

Thank you everyone for your answers. I am reviewing them now. Koen.h.pauwels - You're spot on for what I'm looking for. See I'm the creative marketer vs. numbers marketer and projections for something that has never been done before just isn't easy. At least not for me. That's part of the reason I'm considering a feasibility study.

A feasibility study is great. We've done several, and they can be very helpful. BUT the real test of feasibility is a small scale experiment or test market. That's what you should really try to do, if it's feasible with your concept.

Even a simulated test market -- a kind of market research assessment -- can go a long way toward projecting consumer attitudes to a volume estimate and feasibility "answer." And often it's less expensive than a real feasibility study.

Any ideas about total sales generated from television advertising in general? I don't only want infomercials, but an estimate based on total corporate sales of advertisers and the percentage of their budget spent on advertising. I realize this may seem like an impossible questions, but it seems as if someone would have already completed this research.
