How Can I Track Occurance Of My Tv Advertising?

Posted by mgardner on 250 Points
We are a non-profit organization and send our public service announcements out to stations all over the country to run when they have available space. Because we aren't paying for this advertising they won't give us occurrence reports. I was using VMS on an ad hoc basis to get that information, but they went under last year. The only company i found who does this is Competitrack, but they won't track local/regional airings, which is important to me as well as national placements. Does anyone know of another company that might provide this service?

Have you looked at either of these companies (I know nothing about them personally)?

Based on the lack of responses, plus my own experience, I suspect there is no good answer to your question.

When faced with a parallel situation for a client we ended up using an awareness survey, which is fielded every 2-3 years. The client was supposed to not send the ads to certain geographies during some years, and we looked for differences in results for those areas (versus balance of sample).

How well did it work? Don't really know, because awareness was so low in the absolute that differences we observed were not statistically significant. Probably not a great experimental design on hindsight. But high marks for the client who was determined to see if we could detect/measure the difference.
