In Need Of Market Research

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
Hello Val, my name is Jerod Jordan, and I am the CEO of the Jermaidan Group. I am a member of your website and I need help from other members if possible. Just recently I acquired a new client in the plumbing industry. They are a small family owned company that has been in business almost 30 years now. They hired me to create a marketing plan that will increase revenues, build their brand within the local community, and identify and target new markets. The main problem I am having is with the market research for this particular industry within this demographic. If you would please offer any suggestions on where to look for pertinent info. I would be very appreciative.

Jerod, you've got to offer more info if you want decent help here!

Plumbing industry? What does that mean? Construction services? Residential repairs? Pipe manufacturing? Fixture retailing?

Hi, there may be some inexpensive ways to collect data for this industry, what is the market area?

Once you have answered Shelley's question (what industry?) one datapoint you could look at would be market share of your firm relative to other similar firms in your market. Your local library probably has resources to help build a list of local competitive companies....

For a simple example, if there are 10 similar firms with 100 total employees (based on info from your library) and your firm has 7 employees total, then your client probably has about 7% market share.

Regarding other ways to collect data: have you considered looking at financial statements of larger public companies in your market? For example, if your client is in the plumbing parts distribution business, you can look at:

and some of these documents can provide some key industry insights.
