"I get by with a little help from my friends." The words of that old Beatles song could well be applied to today's search marketers. After all, there's nothing like a good link-back among friends to boost search rankings. And in a recent guest post at the MarketingProfs Daily Fix blog, Neil Anuskiewicz describes some effective, legitimate ways to encourage friendly sites and blogs to link to your site:

First, make sure you have a well-designed, informative site. That way, the quality sites and blogs you'll want to garner link-backs from will want to associate with you. Make sure your blog, for instance, offers unique information and guidance.

Write worthy articles and press releases. Submit them to other sites, and to paid news services. This will help establish you as an expert, and get your thoughts in front of your audience wherever they may be.

Identify the better sites and blogs in your industry. They'll have a good reputation and reasonably high Google PageRank.

Establish relationships with these site owners and bloggers. Familiarity breeds trust and allegiance.

Finally, ask them to publish a text link to your site, explaining how it is relevant to the topic of their site or blog. "They are much more likely to publish your link if they view you as a contributor to the online community and not [someone] out purely for self-promotion," he says.
