The Sales Executive Council recently polled its members on their picks for must-have iPad apps for sales teams. "Given the volume of app options ... it is important to find out which of the thousands are actually worth downloading," the SEC notes in a recent blog post.

The most popular apps for sales fall into four broad categories, says the SEC: travel and expense, document editing and viewing, sales enablement, and presentation and meeting support. As you might expect, the top apps mentioned are those that make life easier for the salesperson on the move.

Here are three winners (compatible with iPhones and iPods, too) to consider:

Concur. The Concur app simplifies a lot of processes on the road. It expedites expense reporting (you can snap a photo of your receipts and upload them to your account) and helps you check on travel arrangements and book hotels, the SEC says.

Urbanspoon. Proof that sales armies travel on their stomachs, the Urbanspoon app is a favorite because it finds eateries in a snap when you're in a strange city. Find nearby restaurants, browse a comprehensive list, or shake it up to get random suggestions.
