How would I go about starting my own cake business? I only specialize in Red Velvet Cakes for now. I will be expanding to more. But for now I want to start there. What do I need to do to get started?

Large question, probably more than could be adequately answered in a post here.

If you live in the States, I suggest you get the book "A Small Business Start-Up Kit" by Peri Pakroo. I reviewed it on my Blog a while back:

There may also be some free resources you can utilize. Here in Pennsylvania, we have a small business development function called SBDC sponsored by the state, it operates out of various universities around the state. You can get some helpful, and free, consulting and advice. When I was doing my MBA I took a consulting class where they paired the MBA student up with the business owner to work on a specific problem. Not a bad deal for free, especially since the consultee was getting the aid of people with years of business experience. So check if there's anything like that available in your area.
