New Hr Aid Saas Platform Needs Marketing Ideas

Posted by Anonymous on 500 Points
I'm mentoring a very new company that has developed a compelling SaaS platform to handle collection, review and tracking of applicant resumes. Check out www.theresumator.com.

The company and the web platform were conceived, built and launched by one guy - a talented web designer, HCI expert and budding entrepreneur.

The service had a soft launch a couple of months ago and has already attracted attention in the online and old line media. You may be interested in using it yourself, as it provides outstanding value for the minimal cost.

However, I would appreciate your thoughts on potential target markets and how to approach them on the normal shoestring budget that startups have to deal with.

Please no website critiques, unless they pertain to the business aspects of this new company.

Thanks for your help!

    Dear NuCoPro,

Here are ideas to approach your best potential target markets (HR professionals) on a shoestring/startup budget.

    1. Create awareness and persuasion by blogging/posting information about The Resumator on blogs such as:
    Fistful of Talent
    Benefits Buzz
    The HR Capitalist
    Compensation Cafe
    Compensation Force
    Recruiting Blogs.com
    ERE.net
    Alltop (the Careers category)

Also check out Business School Directory's Top 50 HR Blogs for more worthwhile places to create conversation about The Resumator.

    2. Join profession-based social networks for HR professionals such as:
    The HR Net
    HRMToday.com
    RecruitingBlogs.com
    SHRM Connect
    The Fordyce Letter Network

Become active in these networks and utilize them as forums to create conversation/generate awareness about The Resumator

    3. Linked-In is an amazing resource to create conversation about useful tools and brands such as The Resumator. Create great profiles for yourself/The Resumator/the founder of The Resumator. Connect with others. Join groups. Participate in discussions. Ask and answer questions. Be active on a daily basis.

    4. Create and regularly update Facebook pages and Twitter profiles for you and The Resumator. Make sure the updates are always information that is useful to your targets, not merely self-promotional communication.

Essentially, you can use social media to generate an incredible amount of conversation and awareness for The Resumator for an investment that requires little/no money, but a lot of time.

Smart Monkey Marketing (www.SmartMonkeyMktg.com) has a lot of experience creating social media/word-of-mouth initiatives for clients very similar to The Resumator. We call these Conversation Campaigns. It is all about launching, continuing, and growing conversations with the relevant audiences.

    Best wishes for success!

    Sincerely,
    Evan Brownstein

Gary - My concern about the website is three-fold: cost, accuracy, and privacy.

    1) The free cost to sign up confused me, until I clicked the sign up button and saw the 3 tiered pricing.

    2) I'd want to ensure that what someone submits is what I receive. How can you assure accuracy?

    3) How can I assure someone submitting a resume that their data will be safeguarded (especially if they currently have a job and are investigating new opportunities)?

As for marketing ideas, don't neglect the non-profit sector. A free option is always enticing if it makes something they do easier/faster.

    Dear Gary,

Yes, the non profit world could be huge for you. Consider advertising through online forums and related blogs. Museums, particularly (and science centres and zoos) are a huge avenue
    worth investigating.

You'll find all kinds rabbit holes to drop into at:

    www.astc.org, (9K visitors per month)
    www.aam-us.org (17.8K visitors per month)
    and
    www.aza.org (40K visitors per month)

That's 66,800 visits per month from just three non profit sites.
    Not too shabby.

The bio tech and nano tech world could also offer great potential targets. Again, online forums offer huge (and free) audience potential.

And if you check any given site on www.quantcast.com, if the site is registered, under the section headed "Audience Also Visits" (bottom right of the results screen) you'll find a whole list of other sites that users of the site you choose also visit.

And all beautifully connected and clickable.

I hope this helps. Good luck to you.

    Hi all,

This is Don Charlton, Founder and CEO of The Resumator.com. I want to thank you for the information you have supplied thus far and look forward to any new comments.

We are indeed looking at non profits and the HR sector, but we are also trying to find a way to get to the 85% of businesses that have no idea the applicant tracking system market even exists. There is a potential windfall if The Resumator can be the product that puts this industry on their radar.

    Thanks again!

    Don
