You can never go wrong with these three Ps:

    1) Personal: Make your letter personal. Avoid form letters that do not speak to the recipient's specific needs or business. If you need to reach a large audience, perhaps you could reference an industry trend or statisitic that they will want to know.

    2) Personable: Keep your tone light but professional. If your reader has to open a dictionary to translate your letter, then chances are, he'll be unwilling to take your call or contact you.

    3) Packaging: Instead of sending a letter only, try sending a kit. Give the recipients a package they have to open. There are a number of innovative packaging ideas to explore.

In addition to these three Ps, give the reader an offer they can't refuse. Maybe a risk-free consultation or product demo. A good letter calls the reader to take an action.

    Good luck.
