JBtron makes an excellent point. As a general response to a general question, good marketing translates into higher revenue on the old corporate balance sheet. Marketing usually can't do much to reduce costs on the balance sheet, so to contribute to overall profitability, good marketing adds to the revenue side of the business equation – marketing is a revenue driven set of disciplines and practices.
