Need To Drive Traffic To A City-owned Website

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
I need to develop a print campaign (headlines, taglines) to drive trafffic to a new city government website that has been revamped to be more citizen friendly, with information they can use to communicate with local officials.

Something like:
• Don't Complain. Communicate.
visit your website at www.cityname.org

or...

• Change is just a Click Away.

Almost went with something about listening, but then thought about recent national articles and news about wiretapping etc. it could be the wrong vocab.

I've been seeing signs around a local town with large black question marks on a white background, a web site URL and headlines like "What do you want Your City to look like?" "Tell us what you want." "We want to hear from you." I think they are taking a very direct approach with citizens to get their vision. It got my attention.

Looking at some of these suggestions, I think it's very important you think rationally about not over-promising, or promising what you can't deliver.

Sure, tag-lines like "change is only a click away" get your attention. But how credible is it if someone clicks, asks for garbage collection days to be changed, and nothing happens?

Unless your city is very radical, change will be more likely measurable on a glacial scale rather than with a clock or calendar.

It sounds like the key rationale to drive traffic to the website is to provide information and increase the understanding of council activities amongst the citizen ratepayers. Plus, any enquiry online lowers the cost of delivering that service which would otherwise take someone's time to answer it.

Our state government uses the term "Victoria Online - the fastest way to find local, state and federal government information and services". It's a bit verbose, but it gets the message across without making promises that can't be kept.
