Too Few Clients At My Beauty Salon

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
My newly opened beauty salon is struggling to gain enough clients. It is a 2nd business for me and my partner is the beautician. The salon is attractive and in a good location. When I can I go to the salon I promote it in the high street by giving out special offer leaflets and this is very successful. In one hour I can gain 2 clients and have proved it time and again. However my problem is that my partner does not agree with this marketing approach and prefers costly advertising in newspapers and magazines which brings in precisely zero, so when I am not there it goes dead. I cannot be at this business all the time as I have a large company to run and I was hoping that my partner would be more dynamic, she is rather shy but on top of that I feel she is trying to prove me wrong. Is there a real alternative?

I strongly recommend advertising specialties and the print media you have been using. If you are looking for a cost effective way to get results this would be the way to go. I currently work with a few salons and in a matter of months we were able to boost traffic in excess of 30-50%. The personal approach is the best because your hair is personal and once you find someone you like its hard to switch. You want to keep your salon top of mind for clients and potential clients. I have also created referral programs to utilize your happy clients to do the marketing for you. If you have any further questions you can contact me

Now that school is out, can you hire a couple students, and teach them to hand out flyers?

Sit with your partner and find out her objection to the fliers. (Listen to her reasoning for ad placement) You may find it as simple as fear of self promotion. Then, telemoxie's idea of hiring it out might solve it.

Just because you disagree on this marketing decision don't go into doom and gloom about the partnership being bad. It just means you disagree. You didn't say she's totally against the idea-- she just doesn't' execute the plan while you are not there to do it.

Guerrilla Marketing techniques such as fliers and in my mind-- anything that puts a smiling face to the customer will win over an impersonal ad on a crowded page.

By the way, I just wrote a business plan for a print on demand company. My research found that newspapers as a whole are declining in subscription.

    Hope that helps, Carol

    I have a question:

I own a salon, and have just renovated it, brought new product lines in, and will be adding nails within the month. Although my retail has progressively gotten much better, our services continue to drop below what I even find acceptable. I already do referral cards with 20% off, and the prices at the salon are very reasonable., and we are in a good section of town. What do I do to get my girls to build their tickets, and acquire new clients???
