Usually when segmenting, you would segment based on a more than one criteria.

You have chosen one - the customer's vertical. Someothers you may want to also consider are attributes of the company (number of employees, dollar sales, what type of computer systems they use, country they are in, etc.) and items related to your company's interations (sales channel used to contact them, how much they buy from you, profitability of the sale, etc.).

The goal is to segment into populations that act in similar manners, so you can then market to these populations in a simialr manner and get effective results.
