Web Video Format / Editing

Posted by Anonymous on 163 Points
Our client would like to shoot and edit their own video (I know, don't get me started!) and then have us include it on their site.

I am looking for a recommendation for the best format(s) for preparing website-based video, and best editing programs.

What's the consensus?

Thanks,

BARQ

Flash video movie (.flv) seems to be the best format giving you full control over your presentation. Check this site out https://www.boutell.com/newfaq/creating/video.html

I've done this and it's easy to do (to get it pro-level is another thing entirely). I wrote an article on this topic: https://manygoodideas.com/CreativeBusinessIdeas/07-08-Video.htm

In summary, I used Apple's iMovie to edit, add titles/effects, and save in various fidelities/sizes. You'll want a minimum of Quicktime and Windows Media formats.

As capitol said Flash Video is the best choice. It plays with the Flash plugin on Macs and PCs You only need one format.

You can edit with lots of video editing software. I use Pinnacle.

I used Flash in many sites. the lastest is www.thejuicestudios.com.

    Hey BARQ,
do u just simpley want the video to be shown or to be downloaded? In case it has to be shown simply then you can use the flv (Flash Video) format. You can add effects using Windows Movie Maker, Quicktime pro, Ulead Video Studio etc. if the effects are very basic u can do it in flash too. While using flv format, remember the video will be streamed and not downloaded on the surfer's computer.

Hence in case you want it to be downloadable then using quicktime format or wmv file.

To change the video to flash you will get many free tools on net, get any one. i used Swish to add flash effects and videos in one file
