Non-fiction Book/ Website Name Needed

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
Hi. We need a name for an upcoming book and website series.

Subject: government contracting guide for small business.

Target - small businesses who might not know they have something local, state or national gov needs. (The local feed store or cleaning service)

Secondary market is folks who know they want to sell to gov but don't know how. (Small tech firms).

Our unique position is that we take all the gov speak and turn it into something normal business folks can understand.

If you are a small business person, what would appeal to you?

If B2B is business to business, then what you're suggesting is B2G - Business to government.

I've often looked at, and turned away from, the opportunities in government contracts.

Why? The government makes it too hard for small business. They issue very large tender documents with long preambles, they want onerous legal warranties and indemnities, they often require security bonds to be lodged in case you can't complete the project, and often they update and amend these documents several times before the tenders close, meaning you might have to read them umpteen times before you can submit a response.

Reading a 240 page tender document - or more - to try and understand what they want done, isn't much fun.

If you could interface between the Government and small business such that you do the interpretation, that would be a useful service worth paying for, and it would also be worth a percentage of the value of each contract, so long as that still leaves enough on the table for the small business owner.

Back to the name: I like B2G but I bet a lot of others have already thought of that. So perhaps LocalB2G, SMEB2G, or B2GmadeSimple would work... You'll have to look at what URLs might be available along those lines.

    Hope that helps.

The website name will be easy - take the book's title and add "book.com" to the end of it. Odds are, the domain isn't registered.

As for the title, consider something like:

Secrets Of Selling To The Government

Big Contracts for Small Companies: Understanding and winning government contracts.

    www.bigcontracts.com

You can follow it up with a series of industry specific ebooks like "Big Contracts for Small Tech Companies" and brand the "Big Contracts" series with speaking engagements and webinares.

Thanks all, esp Chris B. who expressed his frustration with government contracting. It lets us know we do have a market.

Alexa, you are right on -- and in tune with our plan -- a series of spin-off publications. When we saw your suggestion for a name, I knew my partners would love it. They do.

    Mucho gracias, all.
