Theme For Booth At Awards Ceremony

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
Hi

My company, SFC engineering, (civil, structural, fire protection engineering), is sponsoring a local (NH) awards ceremony, the BOB awards. As a sponsor, we get a trade-show like 6ft table for promoting our company, but we also get a cafe area. The cafe area will have a few tables, compfy seating like a sofa or chairs, and one of the buffet areas, (every sponsor will have a food station to attract attendees.

I got a call from the event manager and she said that they would like each sponsor to have a theme to their area and "make it fun" but "not trade show-like".

I'm thinking of doing a movie theme, casino or carnival, but I'd love some other ideas. If we play some sort of game, that might attract people to our area but I am not sure that is sophisticated enough. The event has a theme itself, which is an oscar-like theme, and I'm afraid the other sponsors might choose a movie theme.

We are also the recipient of the Best of Business award for engineering, so I really want to make us look like we deserved to win! I only have two weeks to pull something together.

thanks!

First of all, congratulations on your achievement! This is very exciting and I can understand how you want to immediately convey a message of expertise in your field without looking like a "tradeshow booth".

That being said, I have consistently found that games and contests, especially those that involve some type of physical activity, generate the most traffic and attention to your booth. You could still play off the Oscar theme of "winning" without looking like all of the other "movie" booths. Since your category is engineering, I would also focus on more high-tech games, Nintendo WII is a great one for this application, as the games are shown on a large plasma screen, and contestants have to physically move to make their on-screen players move/jump/run, etc. I have seen grown adults go crazy over these type of games.

I would be interested in discussing this further with you - our firm is located in New Hampshire, and we frequently pull together similar ideas and strategies for trade and award shows.

    Thanks, Melissa
