ok This can be a long process ... however lets keep to brief process initially. unfortunately we dont have clarity here if you are looking at sales in marketing also or just branding et al

anyway try to cover the below

    objectives

    competition
what they are doing and have done so far ...can u predict what next they may do?
    who is customer of competition?

    who is you customer
    what do they do
what do they think and feel towards your category and in specific towards your brand
what do you want them to do next
    why should they do this?
how will u enable them to do this

    budgets to all this

Step 1: Know your product - what does it do and how does it work
Step 2: Know your customer - Who will buy it and why? What's important to them? Segment your customers to a managable degree then learn all you can about them. What forms of media reach them regularly?
Step 3: Know your competition - Find out all about their competitive product and who buys from them.
Step 4: Determine your unique selling points and the message you want to get across. Pick one that has the most value to the customers you've identified.
Step 5: marketing mix - determine where to put it, how to get it there and the frequency you want to use.
Step 6: Budget - once the numbers start showing you can then tweak your plan further to the money available.
Step 7: Do it - Do it.
Step 8: Track - set the metrics you can to help determine where you are succeeding and where you may need to rethink

You may consider a test campaign if you dont have any current benchmarks or reliable customer statistics. It's an art as much as a science. also keep in mind basics of your message like a consistent image that ties into your parent company if it's a branded house (if this is the strategy you decide on of course)... I dont believe there's really a right or wrong out there; just trust your instinct and keep learning from your mistakes. Lastly, like mentioned before me, there are also TONS of resources out there to help guide you and if possible don't rush it. Ask us again once you've got some ideas down and we can all help eachother.

Hope this helps you a little.

    Good Luck =]

A Marketing Plan would begin with an analysis of the factors affecting your company and an assessment of your company against that of the competitors. You can use the following tools for that:
    -the SWOT analysis
    -the PESTEL factors

This should help you identify any gaps in your company's strategy that should be looked into and a solution needs to be found to bridge the gap.
This is where the following factors come into place.
    -mission
    -vision
    -goal
    -objectives

You assess your product offering and position your product using the BCG matrix.

You can then prepare a tactical marketing plan which details on the immediate actions to be taken to reach your product/company to the desired levels mentioned in your objective. The marketing mix is an important part of your tactical plan:

The marketing plan should have a detailed summary of info filled into each of the 5Ps. A budget and time line should be allocated to each activity proposed, i.e. launch of new packaging, or customer service department, communication activities through press adverts, etc.

Measures and controls must also be mentioned in order to monitor the activities and ensure the individual objectives are met , and therefore achieving the goal.
