Re-manufacture And Market Sports Invention.

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
We have two patented products (sports and therapy related). They were being manufactured and marketed by a company in NC. We are the holder of said patents and have taken the rights of the products back from this company due to failure to market correctly.

My question is were do we start to look for investors and companies to manufacture and market these items. There is no doubt that once the right people get involved these products will make millions. In the beginning Major sports companies offered to buy the rights to these patents but we did not accept. We had professional sports individuals, doctors and attorneys that firmly believe in these patents along with olympic testing that has been done proving their effectiveness.

I am daughter of the inventor/patent holder and I am looking for answers to help get this product launched. The story behind the making of these products is incredible and a dream waiting to come true. My father made the proto type in our garage over 10 years ago to help me improve on my cheerleading jumps and strength. They can be used for all sports, exercise and physical therapy.

If you have any tips that can help point us in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated.

How do you know that the previous company marketed incorrectly? Was it based on lack of trying or lack of success?

Instead of saying it can be used for all sports, etc. a simpler approach is to pick one area (cheerleading would be a natural) and market to it. Your family story would be the springboard to the testimonial. Work one niche at a time to make it easier to find your target market. Look in your local sports store and/or online catalogs to see what is being sold to the niche, and approach the companies that are selling these products. They'd have the best chance of getting shelf space since they already have the channel developed.

Lots of businesses make products that have similar claims. Collect great testimonials. If you don't have them, start getting them. Since you have Olympic testing - crow about it - especially with the upcoming Olympics ("Want to have top-level performance? Use our product!"). If the product requires custom installation/training, create the videos, and put them on YouTube, etc. - the videos would be informational commercials.

You might try your local invention association, you can find them all here: www.uiausa.org There is another site that may help with finding money or partners, is www.partnerup.com

There are numerous marketing and promotion invention companies. Most work of a piece of the action ( that is a portion of your company). The problem is along with many of the legitimate enterprises there are many unscrupulous ones too. You need to do your homework. lots of these companies have been sued so check them out.

As someone suggested check out the United Inventors Association and many of their marketing people are experts and resources on taking a product to market. You need to understand that it works one of two ways, either they take a piece of your company or they get paid for their services. Most get paid for this, that's how they make their living

Join a local inventors club. It's full of people just like you that are willing to share their expertise pro and con.
Also try to attend some of the inventor conferences and programs either as an exhibitor or an attendee. I suggest walking a show fist. There are lots of resources available just be sure and check them out thoroughly before making any financial commitments.
