Employee Incentive Program For Referring Clients

The professional services firm I work for is looking to improve its commission based incentive program for employees who refer clients to the firm in order to generate new business. I have been doing some research on what other programs are out there that are similar in nature, but not much is coming up. I am hoping to get some ideas on best practices for this type of program.

    My brother-in-law's law firm does $500 cash for anyone (employees or family) that refers business.
