Trademark Registration

Hello. We are considering applying for a trademark for our tagline. I was doing some research on this and the question was raised about whether to register our logo as well. Does anyone have any experience with this? How do companies come to the determination about whether to register their name/logo/tagline?

    Steve, thanks for your advice. You have to submit an application in order to display an SM or TM though, correct? Or is that just what you display in the meantime while you are waiting for the registration to be approved? Also, if we decide to do this, we're trying to determine whether to resister/TM etc. just the tagline, or the logo and tagline. Any insight?
