Sponsorship For Designers

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
I'm a surface designer, and my designs are currently on wallpaper, tiles, and fabrics. My company website is www.atadesigns.com. I'm interested in getting my designs onto other surfaces eg. flooring, ceramics etc. I was told about possibly looking at getting a company to sponsor my designs. I would like to know how to get into this, what would I need to do, or is there a website of companies looking for designs to sponsor? I have looked on the website, but there are so many different links.

What you want to do is license your artwork to others to reproduce on various media. Here are some links to upcoming major licensing expos and a little about licensing itself:

    Hi Annette,
I have worked with many companies on sponsorship and cross-promotions, on the buying as well as sales side, and am very intrigued by your question.

In my experience, the best way to secure corporate sponsors is to tie them into an experience or placement/location that will ensure either high audience traffic/participation, strong publicity, or both.

For instance, offering to wallpaper a non-profit community civic center with said sponsor's logo incorporated subtley into the design would be a great way to generate both traffic and publicity, as long as you promoted it to the media and there was positive acceptance from the market/publications.

Also, cross-promoting your services with a complementary manufacturer would work very well in this instance. Try working directly with the manufacturers in your area of tile, wallpaper, flooring, etc. Check out your local homebuilders or commercial contractors associations for a listing of manufacturers, and contact them directly to request a cross-branding or cross-promotion campaign. If you offered to share the cost of a display space in a home design retail location or trade show, I'm sure they would be very interested in working with you to develop a partnership. Think of the cross-branding you already see between brands such as Ralph Lauren and high-quality paint producers. With customer focus being on the end result, you can sell to twice as many consumers when focusing on these individual buying processes.

If you would like further information on developing campaigns, feel free to contact me directly.

    I hope this was helpful,
    Melissa
