    Depending on what kind of portfolio you are talking about, there are a number of freelance directories that you can join free, and post your portfolio and bio. Start with the freelancers union:

    I use coroflot...it's pretty subjective, but I think if you google online portfolio, you can visit a bunch of them and see what you like and what works best for you.

    You might look into Omeka (omeka.org - no www). It's not a website, but a platform you can use to launch your portfolio on your own site. I haven't used it, but they have some big name users and it's free.
