New Concierge Start Up

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
I am in the process of setting a new concierge business in England with my target being everyone but with emphasis on the professional men and women.

its all quite daunting because there are so many in England that I just want to make sure that I can bring in the business and stand out.

Any advice would be appreciated.

If you want to stand out -- you have to really target a niche and always point to that niche as a way to distinguish yourself. For example your niche could be an "American style Concierge Service" offered in Europe. People will notice that you are different and even ask you what is an American style concierge service -- you will have to have a clear and believable answer which distinguishes you from competitors. My example is a bit extreme -- but it exemplifies how to be different and target a niche.

I agree with Levon. I cringe whenever I hear that the target market is everyone. By trying to reach everyone, you end up reaching no one. Instead, look for the most attractive market first.

If you want more details, I wrote about this on my Blog a while back:

You're actually in a double-bind: in addition to not narrowly defining your target market, your business isn't specific either (basically: you'll do anything for anyone). As Levon & Peter mentioned, focus on your target market but also focus more on your specialty (whether it be childcare, pet care, errands, professional virtual assistance, event planning, etc.).

Consider creating a marketing strategy document to help clarify your market and identify who your competition is (and how you're different/better than they are). Without a strategy, you're basically in the hope-and-pray category. Do your homework now, and reap the rewards later.

Thanks everyone for you response..I reallly would like to target single professional men but wasn't sure if that was right... Funny you say American style because I am American...

I will sit and work on the Marketing Strategy...What do you all think of targeting single professional men?

    Many thanks
