Help - No Objectivity Here - Need Some Opinions

Posted by kpalmer on 500 Points
Hi - again.

Here's the problem: we have a part-time band called BonJourney (Canada ) which is getting amazing reviews - but no one in the festivals and event planning knows us, or has even heard of us.

Can anyone give me some names of people (emails I guess) so that I can give them this link?

www.superiorimagecom.com/bonjourney.htm

Or you can alternatively go onto you tube and type canada bon journey - and it seems to find us.

I need a strategy for getting sell through within a two week window: I know that's not possible - but that's why I'm here with the best of the best.

Take care to all,

Kevin Palmer, RMP, CMInst.M, CTB (hons)

I'm assuming from your question that your target audience is event and festival planners in your metro area, right?

If that's the case, you probably need to contact each planner directly -- perhaps by phone, if possible -- and ask them what it would take to be considered for their event.

With such a narrow target audience you certainly don't need/want a mass medium. Your YouTube exposure is a nice calling card and credential, but 99+% of the people who learn about you that way are not in the target audience, right?

Go right for the decision makers one-on-one.

Yes, but I need all the planners around the continent - not just my local area. I'm looking for more like a wider brush that I can focus an email to - you know?

Contact the Convention and Visitors Bureau for cities that you want to target. Most reputable event planners are members, and they receive mailings from the CVB. You will have to pay a fee, though, if you want to advertise through them. But this is usually the first stop for an event planner.

I'd also recommend creating Facebook and Myspace pages for your band.

Start by listing your site on tribute band lists, such as: https://www.tribute-band.com (where "Gary's" Bon-Journey band is listed: https://www.bon-journey.com/).

Ideally, the website for the band should have its own website, not be part of https://www.superiorimagecom.com/ In fact, typing "BonJourney" finds your competitor in PA before you

Have you looked at: https://festivalnet.com/music_festivals.html? It lists the festivals and the type of music performed so you can apply to those with the "right fit".

For event planners, have you looked at: https://www.gigmasters.com/ or https://www.alltimefavorites.com/
What about any of the meeting planner newsletters or magazines: https://www.mimegasite.com/mimegasite/about_us/subscriptions.jsp (for targeted mailing lists)?

Finally, how about networking with the fan clubs around the world? They love the bands you're performing as tributes, and they'd no doubt like to see/hear you as well.

I suggest getting on MySpace and FaceBook and building a fan base. This will help spread the name quickly and build credibility when approaching the event planners.
