Career Ladder For Pre Sales

for how long should 1 stick in pre sales job? im a managementgraduate and without technical background and my current role is into pre sales. what is the career ladder after pre sales.. as i want to make a career Business development

    Get out of pre-sales right away. If you want to go into sales, go into sales. There are 1000's of sales jobs out there. Don't worry about switching from job to job. It's normal in sales.

    The longer you stay where you are, the less chance you have of getting a real sales job.

    I agree with Michael. I have sold technical products without a technical background. With a good back up team. They're just keeping you away from the big bucks. Just go make it happen.

    I agree with Michael-- except job hopping in sales is NOT commonplace. But moving up because you are denied promotion or lack of opportunity is valid reason.

    currently im in an IT company into pre sales for intl buss, i m gettong offers for buss development but the profile states only telecalling with intl clients ,i dont just want to stick to telecalling .is this the 1st step of sales all about this only

    Varsha, Here are my Two paise views!!

    Being in pre-sales is a good platform in knowing the back end of the company.

    By & large, managing customer visits, bid management, creating market tractions for the vertical constitute the pre-sales job in a IT company. Getting to know the back end for an 15-18 months without a sales target (tho with a soft sales target) will ease out the pressure and make you understand your back end well.

    Post that you need to jump into sales or continue to be in pre-sales and jump into relationship management roles with customers

    Thank you all the authors replying for me.
    As i said earlier i want to be in Sales /Business develeopment for international Business.

    So is Generation of leads and cold calling and maintating client relationship ,is that the only profile one gets to do atleast fro a year . or thers more to Business development profile.

    Currently i m doing lot more in pre sales. so im bit confused no wim planing to change my job so should i get into pre sales or Sales/Business development?

    this will help me accepting new offer in terms of profile.
