in this revolusionised world of internet we have seen many social networking websites which have immense user friendly features like in orkut, facebook, and my space to be precise, how can they earn money leaving the aspect of advertisement absent?

    I suppose they could charge a fee for use. All those that have tried, however, never became big social networks.

    You can't leave advertising absent-- advertising is the only way they do make money. They're reinventing advertising methodologies all the time, but at the end of the day it's still advertising.

    I just checked myspace and found a "sponsored by" followed by a link to dating services. I consider this advertising.

    The successful networks all have advertising. Facebook and MySpace also do special promotions with corporations.

    I beleive Orkut (owned by Google) stopped ads for a period of time. Google has the money to keep that running, but eventually it will carry ads again.

    If you want your networks for free then you have to put up with ads.
