Your Suggestions For Allowing My Site, Charlestonhomesforsale.com To Gain Position On The Search Engines?.

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
I do not want to deal with Google any longer since most of my competion isn't even in the local area. They are HomeGain.com, ServiceMagic.com, etc. and they are buying positions to get leads to sell back to me. I figure the consumer is getting wise to this and looking for real Realtors in the area like me.

If I am reading your question correctly, you're suggesting that you don't want to go head-to-head against those other companies with respect to Google AdWords because these companies can presumably afford to pay more for clicks as they have a nationwide market. (Deep breath.) Is that right? At the very least, you think that people would prefer to deal direct with a Realtor as opposed to a third-party lead generation service (and on this point I wholly agree).

There are a few things you could do. First, you could make your site a little more friendly to search engines so that you will come up higher in the natural/organic (that is, not "paid") search listings.

Your site doesn't even come up in Alexa's traffic rankings, so you really need to work on visibility. Get yourself into dmoz.org and as many online directories as you can. You want as many sites linking back to yours as possible.

Also, if you haven't done so, submit your site to the major search engines so that the site will be crawled regularly.

In addition, I took a look at your keywords for your site, and my opinion is that you have way too much stuff there, a lot of which is somewhat repetitive. Sadly, you can't be top-ranked for 100 search terms with one site (at least, I don't think you can!), so you have to choose a select few that you really think you can dominate and that will still generate traffic. Good choices for you are probably phrases such as "charleston real estate" and "charleston realtor" as well as "charleston south carolina real estate." There's no point in worrying about a search phrase that no one's using.

Finally, you might want to rethink the title that you've given your page. The phrase "Charleston real estate" seems to be well searched, so you might want something along those lines.

I wish I could provide more details here, but there's a reason that many companies have made an entire business out of helping clients with search engine optimization. It's not really the kind of thing you can learn very well from an online bulletin board, but perhaps you will find other resources in this thread.

    Good luck!

Actually, you can. you may need about 100 pages to do that, but leading search engine, Google, spiders very deep into sites and it will pick up different pages for different terms. So you can have a page about "town homes in charleston" and optimize it to terms relating to town homes.

For one of our clients, we have over 1000 php generated pages on specific product parts that do very well in Google. The more specific your keywords, usually the easier it is to compete for top ranking.

Paul's suggestion to get listed in dmoz and other directories is right on the money. Also, go to Alexa and list your site directly. It is worth the time and effort to seek out other related directories to get listed.

    Hope this helps.
