How To Market A Home Care Agency

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
Hi,
I am applying for a job working with a home care agency and they are looking for creative ways to market their services. Part two is that they are looking to expand to another county where they are unknown so I am looking for 1) creative marketing ideas in general and 2) how to create a referral base in an area where you are unknown.

I would join a leads group such as BNI in the area. I'd join that chamber, and actively participate and be involved. I'd make personal sales calls and visits to the area hospitals, geriatric docs, rehab centers and other docs that may be referring patients. I'd call on extended care and hospices-- asking for referrals from them when patients get well enough for just home care. I'd host local bingos. I'd go to VFW's. Prepare a non commercial presentaion to speak to those in your chamber, VFW's, and senior centers. Popular topics are those to deal with insurance/

Sit down and make up a 3 month plan of daily marketing activities to submit. It'll blow them away. Get a book like "get clients now" -- its in your library and use their easy template. I'm licensed to present this but you don't need to pay someone to teach you. In it what she calls "success ingredients", you build a plan like baking a cake. She will walk you thru what is "passive" and what is good inexpensive guerrilla marketing (my words not hers) Every day you'll contact x # of people personally, write x # of sales letters, attend x# networking events a month, etc etc. Write a brief synopis of the activity, your thinking behind it justifying it and how your plan is fluid and will be adjusted as you determine what is and what isn't effective.

What will set you apart is that I'm betting the others you are competing against will say "take out big ads" and other expenses that are more costly than effective. and you'll be sitting there with a plan saying "put me in coach I'm ready to play"

Referrals are going to be where most of your clients from. Be sure to target all of the doctors. Especially in the new county. Make sure they have resources that they can hand to their patients who need help. They need to have a brochure or somthing of that nature to but in their patients hand

Docs will not refer blindly. Be sure to get your testimonials together so that people can see how your clients apprciate your services. The more detailed these testimonials the more believable. It you are able to use client names (be sure to get permission) that is even better. Start by targeting the doctors that are seeing the types of patients that you deal with.

Be sure to let your past clients know that you appreciate them telling others about your care. This can be one of the greatest forms of advertising. Sometimes clients need to be reminded to do this (in a very gentle fashion).

    Hope this helps,
    Mike

Mike is right -- they won't refer blindly. And why would they. Its a relationship sell. Which is what I was trying to say in my post.

But when they find a good source-- they all speak about it and will refer you. On the same token, screw up -- and they'll talk about that too-- as in any biz. I work a lot with docs-- and they are a very tight knit group
