Starting A Blog

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
My company is thinking about starting a blog. We currently have a Facebook page where we post blog topics in the discussion area, but want to duplicate our efforts in a general blog linked to our site. Is it a better strategy to create a blog under our website domain or use hot keywords for our industry as the blog domain?
Ex. captainlimousines.blog.com vs. dfwlimos.blog.com

Starting a blog can be a great strategy. I think you should do it. It should be on a URL you own and control. Here is a bunch of advice on how ot choose a good URL for your blog. With respect to D4, I heartily disagree. The only way a blog is a waste of time and resources is if you do not take the time to create relevant, excellent content. Without good content the blog is essentially a keyword factory (and an ineffective one, at that).
With great content, a blog is a huge customer relationship-building tool with enormous SEO benefits when people begin linking to said great content.

As others have said, definitely create your blog under your existing domain name. As part of the blog setup process, plan to register your blog with Technorati, FeedBurner and other similar services. Then just have fun writing relevant, non-repetitive content and watch the value come rolling in!
