Need To Sell Music Cd For Kids, Written By 2 Dads

Posted by Anonymous on 400 Points
Hi Experts,

I'm helping two friends and I really need your advice.

My friends have a music CD for kids, and they would like to market it -- immediately. I will be the main person to implement whatever suggestions you provide.

Here is some info, to help stir your strategy juices.

The songs are written and performed by two single dads -- The Ditty Daddy's. They are from NYC, both see their kids regularly, pay child support, have normal families, are nice guys, etc.

They are two dads trying to be helpful, supportive and loving toward their kids with songs, since they are living apart from them.

The songs are both comforting about scary things (going to the doctor) and fun & upbeat about doing tasks (picking out your clothes.)

For new dads, babysitters, or people not experienced in engaging kids in these conversations, the music and lyrics can make it easier.

A nonprofit (www.CARDcanhelp.org) will benefit from the sales -- small percent of profit and a song written.

They have a website, www.DittyDaddys.com.

They are posted on YouTube -- Search "DittyDaddys" or go to:

I'm thinking I need to post releases online, and would like specifics from you on: angles to take, particularly helpful places to post, anything on niches to target, successful similar projects to emulate, how to get bulk orders, helpful hints, etc.

My hope is to sell 500 - 1,000 in the next 6 weeks. Points will be awarded quickly, and I favor depth, clarity, optimism, and ease of actual implementation.

With much appreciation,

AMJ

First, consider their music more than just CD sales. For example, iTunes (https://www.apple.com/itunes/contentproviders/). Here's a helpful article: https://www.musicbizacademy.com/knab/articles/sellonline1.htm (although a bit dated).

There are companies that can help you get your music into online stores, such as: https://www.tunecore.com/

If you have a pile of CDs sitting in a basement that you need to sell, then one option is build a local presence. Offer to have the dads play at local venues (for holiday parties) for free, and sell the CDs there. Think bookstores, children's parks, etc. It may be late, but holiday parties are just around the corner.

Contact parent's/mothers groups. Offer to play at their holiday parties. Do they have websites? Can you gift the group a free download track (or bonus track) to enjoy/share/email?

There are a wealth of Internet-based radio shows, such as: https://www.kidsmusicplanet.com/ and https://music.aol.com/radioguide/kids-radio

First, make sure that your album is available in major retail outlets such as Best Buy, iTunes, Amazon, and eMusic. These are powerful brand names that consumers trust. To start, have CD Baby or TuneCore distribute your records.

Learn more about CD Baby at www.cdbaby.net

Learn more about TuneCore at www.tunecore.com

Second, make sure to promote your album on social networking sites such as MySpace, Facebook, and ReverbNation. These sites are a great place to build a fan base.

Third, put together a street team and have them distribute flyers and posters throughout your city. You can order flyers and posters from www.copyworldinc.com. They have great rates.

Lastly, make sure to get the word out to the media. Try to get as much free publicity as you can get. Get college newspapers and online webzines to write about your release. To reach the media, hire a professional writer (e.g., freelance journalist) to write a press release and then have the press release distributed by Market Wire or Mass Media Distribution.
