Novality And Innovation

How does novality related to innovation? Is novelity is one of the characteristic of innovation or it is totally different term.

    The dictionary definitions seem very similar. But I feel like the connotations are not the same.

    I always view novelty as being unique. The problem is unique is not always good.

    I view innovative as "cutting edge", new in a progressive kind of way. Innovative usually carries a positive connotation.
