First step: Figure out what you want out of this. Set clear objectives. Then develop a business/marketing plan, including the investment you're willing to make (time, effort, money) and the timing.

If you skip this step and just jump in and keep doing what you've done, you will always wonder if you maximized the opportunity.

    Good luck!

You might also consider donating some T-shirt design services to some sort of a local charity or event which could give you broad exposure to local movers and shakers.

What stage are you at now? If you're on the Print On Demand bandwagon, i'd say get screens done. You have to prioritize your best designs, cost them based on the amount of colours in the print, source the t-shirts in a range of colors, sizes and styles.

I helped a Cafepress store designer move from POD to Screens and it cost him about $35 000 to have enough designs on enough garments to print a catalogue, give out samples, print labels, develop a territory, buy a van etc.

    Also, who are you targeting?

    Regards...

Myquote: Garments and third party online sales are two completely different models. It is certainly possible to have fun, print a couple of t-shirts and sell them to your friends, but I was talking about setting up a viable business.

It really comes down to economies of scale.
Lets say your 'brand' has 12 designs. Each design is a 3 colour designs, which means 36 screens have to be made. Lets say you put those designs on 4 different colour t-shirts, and that each colour of t-shirt has a size spread like 3 small, 4 medium, 5 large, 4 extra large and 2 xxl. So after you've paid for your 36 screens, you need to print three times on 648 garments.

If you sell every one of those garments, you've grossed about $3000, with costs at about $1800.

The more you do, the cheaper it is; and you need to carry stock. If you've worked hard to get into a store, or chain of stores, they'll want to be able to re-order at will, not wait 6 months.
