This will really depend on what you are selling.

What is the potential service/product and who is your target customer/client.

The more specific you are the more helpful we can be.

If your question is where can I get quality research data for free, then look no further than your public library system.

Your system is likely to have a business library and a small biz development librarian who will become your best friend. With her guidance, you'll have access to current trends, historical data, sample biz plans and much more. Best part of most of it is available online so you don't even have to leave home.

Trade associations are also very useful resources. Read the site completely, then call and ask questions. Someone will either have the answer or point you in the right direction. Oh, and don't forget the small business development center in your city. They'll likely have biz plan software you can use for free!

    Best of luck!

Thanks for the previous postings. I'm interested in starting a local game/coffee shop.

...also are there some online resources I can use to do research? How about some reasonably priced, good software to create the business plan with? Thanks.
